Cardinal Giovanni finds himself in a difficult moral position when Astzunz confesses to him that he’s killed someone. After Astzunzi disappears, Juliano, the perpetrator’s brother, is accused of the crime. Cardinal Giovanni is torn between his religious obligation which necessitates that he not disclose what has been confessed to him, and his conscience which tells him to tell the truth in order to clear the wrongly accused brother’s name.
