The King is being controlled by a shrewd alchemist who is keen on utilizing a characteristic asset of Atlantis to assume control over the world. The Atlanteans, or rather the slaves of Atlantis, are compelled to mine a crystalline material which retains the suns beams. These gems can then be utilized for warmth. The abuse of science has made weapons out of the gems that can shoot a warmth beam to demolish whatever it touches.
